Nov. 15, 2016 11:51 am
CEDAR RAPIDS - An attempt to swipe some candy led to a robbery charge for a Cedar Rapids man.
According to Cedar Rapids police and the Linn County Attorney's Office, officers responded to a report of a shoplifter at Hy-Vee, 279 Collins Road NE, at 1:22 p.m. Monday. There, officers learned a suspect - later identified as 24-year-old Christian W. Davis - had stolen candy from the store.
Authorities said when Hy-Vee employees confronted Davis about the theft, he pulled a knife on them. Davis left the candy and fled the area. Responding officers quickly captured Davis, who was carrying a knife with a 5-inch blade.
Davis told police he 'had screwed up” and that he was trying to 'get some candy for my friend.”
