Bruegger’s, Iowa City police team up to help Crisis Center

Dec. 14, 2016 3:11 pm
IOWA CITY - The Iowa City Police Department and Bruegger's Bagels are joining forces to aid the Johnson County Crisis Center.
The Iowa City Bruegger's locations - 245 Iowa Ave. and 708 S. Riverside Drive - are drop-off locations for canned goods. Anyone who donates a canned good through Wednesday, Dec. 21, receives a coupon for a free bagel and cream cheese. Donations go to the Crisis Center food bank.
'A lot of people need a little extra help this time of year,” said Henri Harper, Community Outreach Assistant for the Iowa City Police Department. 'Between the holidays and heating their homes, budgets are stretched about as far as they can go. We want to help the Crisis Center fill its shelves to make sure people don't go hungry.”
According to a news release, the Crisis Center distributes 106,000 pounds of food each month in Johnson County. Peanut butter, jelly, canned fruit, canned fish, canned meats, 100 percent fruit juice, pasta, rice, canned vegetables, hearty soups and stews, baby formula and baby food are among the most-needed donation items, Harper said.
