HILLS - An autopsy is being performed today on a body found in the Iowa River Wednesday afternoon.
Johnson County Sheriff Lonny Pulkrabek said Thursday the body is a John Doe at this point. Authorities responded to the Iowa River, about halfway between the Sturgis Ferry boat ramp and Hills access between Iowa City and Hills Wednesday afternoon after someone on the river reported seeing a pair of jeans and a boot in a brush pile.
Pulkrabek said the Hills Fire Department and sheriff's office went out on a boat and were able to recover the body. He said the body has been in the water 'a while” and it's too early to speculate on possible foul play.
'There's no way to know until they do an autopsy,” Pulkrabek said.
