Belle Plaine woman, son killed in crash near Marengo

MARENGO - A Belle Plaine woman and her son were killed in a single vehicle crash Thursday morning.

According to the Iowa County Sheriff's Office, a 911 call came in at 7:11 a.m. reporting a single car crash five miles west of Marengo on Highway 212. Authorities said 18-year-old Bethany C. Clark and her 2-year-old son, Roran P. Clark, were eastbound on Highway 212 when Clark lost control on the frost-covered roadway. The vehicle entered the ditch and hit a creek embankment, according to the sheriff's office.

Authorities said Clark's car caught fire and become fully engulfed. Clark and her son died in the crash.

Marengo Fire, Iowa County Emergency Management, Ladora QRS, Iowa County Ambulance Service, Iowa County Rescue and Iowa State Patrol also responded to the crash.
