ANAMOSA - A correctional officer was assaulted by an inmate at the Anamosa State Penitentiary on Wednesday, according to the Department of Corrections.
According to the DOC, security staff responded to the LUB Living Unit at the prison around 5:12 p.m. after an inmate, 23-year-old Taylor Denney, assaulted a male officer. Denney was immediately restrained and placed in administrative segregation.
The officer was checked out at the prison and then transported by staff to the Jones Regional Medical Center for additional treatment. Authorities said he was treated and released and have described the incident as a 'serious assault.”
Denney is serving a 15-year sentence for second-degree arson, escape of a felon and voluntary absence from Des Moines County. He began his sentence on Feb. 22, 2010.
