IOWA CITY - The man accused of taking his stepdaughter and triggering an Iowa AMBER ALERT on Saturday faces an additional assault charge.
A release from Captain Gary Kramer with the Johnson County Sheriff's Office says 48-year-old Kenneth Johns attacked another inmate around 10:30 a.m. after being transferred to the Johnson County Jail.
A criminal complaint says a jail employee was making rounds when he noticed Johns was agitated in the common room of A Block. The employee ordered all inmates in the block to their cells, which is when Johns entered a cell and began attacking another inmate. Johns bit another inmate on the upper left thigh, which caused it to bruise and bleed, according to the complaint.
During the fight, he suffered minor injuries. A photo submitted to KCRG-TV9 appears to depict Johns outside the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics with injuries to his face.
Johns was booked Monday morning at the jail on charges of domestic abuse while displaying a weapon and a parole violation after being arrested Sunday morning in Davenport.
Authorities recovered his stepdaughter early Sunday morning after a third-party dropped her off in West Branch. They say she is safe.
