Caitlin Clark and her Iowa women’s basketball team dealt with all the pregame hubbub, then played their game in dealing No. 2 Ohio State a 93-83 defeat

Saturday at the ceremonial start of Alaska’s famed 1,000-mile Iditarod sled dog race across the state’s wilderness, a participant for the day wore an “Iowa 22” shirt/coat/cold-weather something to celebrate women’s basketball star Caitlin Clark.

Iowa took the lead early in the second half and never relinquished it, shooting 63 percent in the second half. The 87-80 win over Northwestern is the Hawkeyes’ fourth win in the last five games. The vanquished include Michigan State and Wisconsin.

Caitlin Clark and four-year teammates Kate Martin and Gabbie Marshall have made a lot of good noise for the Hawkeyes in their careers. They’ll be saluted in Senior Day ceremonies with Molly Davis and Sharon Goodman after Sunday’s Ohio State-Iowa game.

Caitlin Clark made her decision to turn pro in April earlier this week, then joined her Hawkeye teammates in scorching Minnesota, 108-60. Now comes a Sunday regular-season finale with No. 2 Ohio State on Iowa’s Senior Day.
