State senator will seek Democratic nomination in 1St District

Republican Party of Iowa calls efforts by state Sen. Liz Mathis to convince her colleagues to support the tax break for a client that paid her husband’s firm nearly $150,000 “self-serving” and “shady, to say the least.”

Mathis, who has served in the Iowa Senate for 10 years, has been endorsed by 14 Democratic colleagues and 34 state representatives, as well as Linn County elected officials.

Gov. Reynolds’ inaction, which makes it impossible for the board to meet because of a lack of a quorum, is unacceptable to Iowa Democratic legislative leaders.
