St. Patrick's Day Parade to close downtown streets

CEDAR RAPIDS — The annual St. Patrick's Day Parade will close portions of downtown Cedar Rapids Thursday.
Beginning at 11 a.m., the staging area will be closed. That area includes:
— Fourth Avenue SE from Fifth Street SE to Eighth Street SE.
— Sixth and Seventh streets SE from Third Avenue SE to Fifth Avenue SE.
The parade itself begins at 1 p.m. and will close the following streets:
— Sixth Street SE from First Avenue SE to Third Avenue SE.
— Fifth Street SE from First Avenue SE to Fourth Avenue SE.
— Third Street SE from First Avenue SE to Fourth Avenue SE.
— Second Street SE from Second Avenue SE to Fourth Avenue SE.
— Second Avenue SE from Second Street SE to Seventh Street SE.
— Third Avenue SE from First Street SE to Sixth Street SE.
The parade is scheduled to end at 2:30 p.m. Mary Oehler, Traffic Engineering Program Administrator for the city, said streets will reopen as the parade passes and all streets should be reopened by 3 p.m.

The parade is organized by the Saint Patrick's Day Parade Society, better known as SaPaDaPaSo. The non-profit run by volunteers has been organizing the parades since 1977.
