Iowa is fortunate to have Kirk Ferentz

I am responding to an earlier letter by Richard Mason ('Ferentz glory days have passed,” Sept. 10).
I think Marc Morehouse did a great job in chronicling 143 Kirk Ferentz wins at the University of Iowa. But, in the end, the best wins were just Morehouse's opinion.
I feel that 143 wins is an incredible accomplishment, whether they occurred 15 years or one year ago.
I don't know Ferentz personally, although I have met him. I think he is one of the best coaches in the country, if not the best coach in the country. And that says little about what a descent person he is. Just ask any of his former or current staff members or players.
Iowa has been, and still is, fortunate to have him.
