CORALVILLE — The Iowa Children's Museum is accepting nominations for its Robert E. Yager Active Learning Award, which honors exceptional teachers and educators who create a student-driven environment where active learning is possible.
This year's honorees will receive a $100 gift card for classroom supplies, a classroom field trip to the museum, free museum admission passes for students, an original art print and more.
The Robert E. Yager Active Learning Award honors outstanding educators who foster an active learning environment in their classroom and create opportunities for students to imagine, create, discover and explore. Through hands-on activities, child-led projects, community partnerships, and other interactive activities, these educators foster an environment where students can thrive.
Nominations can be made by parents, educators, administrators, students, and community members Nominate an educator online at theicm.org/about-us/the-power-of-play/activelearning. Nominations for the 2022-23 award are due by Friday, Jan. 6.
The nomination form includes describing how the educator fosters an active learning environment; describing an innovative or impactful lesson or activity that the nominee has facilitated; and whatever else you would like to share about the nominee.
We believe active learning is critical to child development and education. Research overwhelmingly asserts that students learn best when they actively participate in their own learning. Many educators in our community dedicate themselves to providing students with opportunities to become engaged learners, innovative thinkers, and creative problem-solvers.
