Linn-Mar High’s Friday football game to host satellite voting site

MARION - A satellite voting station will be open at Linn-Mar High School's first football game of the season Friday night.

The station will open at 4 p.m. and close at 9:30 p.m., according to a news release from the Linn County Auditor's Office. The stadium is located at 3451 10th Street in Marion.

The heavy foot-traffic of a high school football game, paired with advertising efforts by the Linn County Auditor's Office, should bring several hundred voters to the satellite voting location, said Becky Stonawski, deputy commissioner of elections with Linn County.

'I anticipate a pretty heavy turnout tonight at Linn-Mar,” she said. ' ... I'm expecting some pretty good numbers.”

On the Linn-Mar Community School District's ballot, six candidates are vying for three at-large seats on the school board. Voters also will decide an $80 million bond, that would be used to fund two new schools for the fifth- and sixth- grades and an additional elementary school.

The bond would incrementally increase Linn-Mar's tax rate to about $19 per $1,000 of taxable assessed property.

Another satellite voting station will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Mansfield Center in Kirkwood Community College's Iowa Hall, 6301 Kirkwood Blvd. SW.

Voters in the Linn-Mar, Alburnett, Cedar Rapids, Center Point-Urbana, Central City, College Community, Lisbon, Marion, Mount Vernon, North Linn and Springville school districts will be able to vote absentee at the Kirkwood site.

Election Day is September 12.
