Marion extended its season with a runner-up finish at the Class 3A sectional meet Wednesday. The Wolves still have a chance for a second straight trip to the state golf meet.

Nelson Brands is an accomplished wrestler, winning three state titles and All-American honors in high school and college. He also trained under Hall of Fame coaches. Brands will bring those experiences to his new role as Iowa City Regina boys’ head wrestling coach.

Iowa City West freshman Ainsley Wilson carded five total birdies and shot 3-under 66 to win medalist honors at the MVC Mississippi Division golf meet Monday at Bunker Hill Golf Course in Dubuque. Xavier won the team title.

Sophomore starter Jack Walsh pitched a complete game five-hitter with a season-high 13 strikeouts, helping second-seeded Coe to a 7-2 victory over No. 3 Luther in the American Rivers Conference baseball tournament Thursday at Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids.

The American Rivers Conference baseball tournament has been held at Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids since 2004. The plan is to keep it here but use Riverfront Stadium in Waterloo for seasons a scheduling conflict occurs with the Cedar Rapids Kernels.

Coe is the defending American Rivers Confernce baseball tournament champions. The Kohawks are the No. 2 seed in what promises to be a highly competitive tournament this season.

Iowa’s Kennedy Blades has had a monumental year, earning an Olympic silver medal in Paris, claiming an NCWWC national title and USA Wrestling’s Women’s College Wrestler of the Year honors and the U.S. Open title for a shot at the 2025 U.S. World Team. She trains with the Iowa’s women’s program and the men of the Hawkeye Wrestling Club.

Jalen Adams has provided the consistent and steady presence to help the Hawkeyes to 35 regular-season wins and the No. 6 seed in the Big Ten Conference softball tournament, beginning Wednesday at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind.

Linn-Mar’s Morgan Rupp fired 1-under 71 to claim medalist honors at the Mississippi Valley Conference Super Meet on Monday at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Falls. Host Cedar Falls won a tiebreaker over Cedar Rapids Washington and Cedar Rapids Xavier for the team title.

The Eagles won three elimination games, including back-to-back 11-9 and 15-9 victories over Iowa Central on Sunday to win the Region 11-B softball tournament title.

Kirkwood Coach Eric Frese has seen the progress made by freshman Jessa DeMoss. He had confidence in her to open the postseason and she responded with a complete game two-hitter in a 5-1 win over Northeast.

Iowa City High, Iowa City Liberty and Iowa City West compete annually in the Clash for the Club. The winning team takes home a traveling trophy. For the first time since its inception five years ago, West won the event.

University of Iowa’s Jaylee Ojo has overcome injury to return to the batter’s box. Despite six previous plate appearances in the last month since being cleared to bat again, she delivered a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth of Iowa’s 5-0 win over Iowa State Tuesday at Pearl Field.

Reece Beuter said he put too much pressure on himself and create unnecessary stress. The Iowa right-hander focused on having more fun and loving baseball. Beuter is 5-0 this season as a reliable Sunday starter for the Hawkeyes.

University of Iowa swept its second straight Big Ten Conference opponent, closing a 3-game series with a 10-0 win in seven innings over Indiana. The Hawkeyes remain atop the conference standings.
