He was a two-time all-state pick in football and named captain of the Class 2A team by the Iowa Newspaper Association. Played in the 2017 U.S. Army All-American bowl game. Won 98 matches in his wrestling career, winning the 2A heavyweight state title with a 21-3 record. He was a three-time state wrestling qualifier. Won five individual state titles in track and field.
