Iowa City collaborating on relief spending, affordable housing, child care

The Iowa State Patrol said 59-year-old Jay Statser of West Liberty was traveling westbound on I-80 in a 1998 Ford Explorer about 10:44 p.m. when he lost control, entered the north ditch and struck a bridge pillar for the Highway 1, or North Dodge Street, overpass.

At about 6:10 p.m., a driver was traveling north on Highway 1, between Iowa City and Solon at Fox Lane NE, when a deer ran into the path of the car, according to the Iowa State Patrol.

County auditors said the surge in early voting was due to hotly-contested races and because auditors tried new things, such as printing absentee ballot request forms in the Penny Saver and hosting a “Friday Night Lights” polling site at a Solon football game.

The final public input session will begin at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 27, at the county’s administration building in Iowa City. The Board of Supervisors has been discussing a list of priorities for the funding.
