Moment No. 3: Iowa’s 1986 field hockey team became the first Iowa women’s team to win an NCAA championship.

Moment No. 4: The University of Iowa, under leadership of then-president Sandy Boyd, elevated 12 women’s teams to intercollegiate status and hired Christine Grant as the women’s athletics director.

Moment No. 5: For the first time ever, an Iowa women’s team went to a Final Four in 1984.

Moment No. 6: Lisa Bluder and Megan Gustafson became the first player-coach duo from the Big Ten to sweep the Naismith National Coach of the Year and National Player of the Year awards.

Five-star offensive lineman Kadyn Proctor canceled three of his official visits Friday night, setting up a recruiting battle between Iowa and Alabama for the highly-coveted Southeast Polk prospect.

Moment No. 7: Christine Grant pulled off what she later described as her “best recruiting job I ever did in my life,” swaying C. Vivian Stringer to come to Iowa.

Moment No. 8: In a 22-day period, Iowa women’s basketball won two Big Ten championships and had three sellouts at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

Iowa picked up a commitment this week from a four-star running back in Florida although Iowa State won over a few in-state recruits in a busy week of football recruiting.

Moment No. 9: After Judith Davidson helped Iowa field hockey win a national title in the 1980s, Beth Beglin made the Hawkeyes a consistent Final Four team in the 1990s.

Moment No. 10: Iowa became the first Power Five program to add a women’s wrestling team in 2021 as a result of the settlement to a Title IX lawsuit.

Moment No. 11: Lisa Bluder became the 14th Division I women’s basketball coach to win 800 career games in 2021.

Moment No. 12: Iowa women’s athletics director Christine Grant was the president of the AIAW from 1980-81, leading a group with more members at the time than the NCAA. But Grant had a difficult fight to keep the association alive.

Moment No. 13: Iowa softball punched its ticket to a third straight Women’s College World Series appearance in 1997.
