They have three children each (two boys and a girl) who all are the same ages. This season is the eighth consecutive and final season that the brothers get to coach a son and nephew.

The North Linn boys’ basketball team has been a state tournament qualifier eight years in a row. It has played in a state championship game seven years in a row, including winning the Class 1A title last season. It has six seniors, including one of the best players in 1A in Mason Bechen. Yet a 20-point loss this past Saturday at Dunkerton meant the Lynx weren’t even included in the first IHSAA top-10 rankings of the season.

The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders came into existence after a move from Mason City. That move was contingent on the first indoor ice facility being constructed in town. The Cedar Rapids Ice Arena was built, with the first game in it coming exactly 25 years ago. A standing-room-only crowd of 4,104 fans watched the RoughRiders beat Rochester in a shootout.
