TEAMS TO WATCH
C.R. Washington – The Warriors posted a strong season a year ago, winning the Mississippi Valley Conference Valley Division and claiming a regional team title. Washington finished third at the Class 4A state meet in 2024, losing a tiebreaker to runner-up Waukee Northwest, and was second in 2023. The Warriors will be led by one of the state’s best combos in Jane Petersen and Lily Belle Barker. Shaylin Munson, Kate Newlin and Lillian Buresh are also back with experience on a deep team with some young talent ready to contribute. Expect another strong campaign.
Highland – The Huskies placed third at the 1A state tournament last season, finishing one shot back of second. Four of six starters return. Adisyn Prottsman finished 12th and Danika Kraus was 16th, individually at state. They also are the top-two scorers from a year ago, recording combined adjusted averages of 46.98 and 48.90, respectively. Emersyn Schultz and Adeline Krotz also has state experience. Highland is poised for another successful season.
Oelwein – The Huskies finished third at the 2024 2A state tournament. They are loaded with talent and depth, bring back their top-four scorers and five with state experience. Sophomore Grace Lewis tied for second and gives Oelwein a chance for a low score each time out. Grace Burg, Hannah Patrick and Jaylynn Craun are key returners, as well as sophomore Grace Gearhart, will likely round out the scoring. The Huskies and Sumner-Fredericksburg will battle for the NICL title.
Solon – The Spartans placed fifth at the 3A state tournament last season. They have also won back-to-back Wamac Super Meet titles. Solon has a strong nucleus back with three of their top-four scorers returning. Sydney Dee was the top Spartan last season, posting a 44.52 combined adjusted average. Senior Izzy Frees and sophomore Mya Miller were starters. Solon has two more that played multiple varsity rounds. Fill out the lineup and they will battle West Delaware in the Wamac East.
Western Dubuque – The Bobcats were MVC Valley and Super Meet runners-up to Washington. They were third in all classes with a 170.15 team combined adjusted average. Wester Dubuque returns three starters, including CeCe Ball, Amber Wilson and Natalie Fangmann. All three had combined adjusted averages at 45.13 or better with Ball leading the way at 42.26. The Bobcats need some junior varsity or new players to solidify their lineup and support three good scorers.
Williamsburg – The Raiders reached the 3A state tournament and tied for seventh. Williamsburg was the Wamac Super Meet runner-up and ranked fifth in 3A with a 187.32 combined adjusted average. Both were one spot back of Solon. Williamsburg bring back four of its top-six scorers from a team that won the Wamac West last season. Rubianne Allison, Mallory Jones, Jenna Yearlan and Kenzi Driscoll competed at state and should be a good foursome to guide the Raiders.
