Here are the 2023 Iowa high school boys’ tennis substate brackets
Cedar Rapids Washington, Linn-Mar and Iowa City West among Class 2A No. 1 seeds

Five Gazette area boys’ tennis teams have been awarded No. 1 seeds for the substate tournament, set to begin on Friday, May 12 at 9 a.m..
In Class 2A, Cedar Rapids Washington, Linn-Mar and Iowa City West earned top seeds. In 1A, top seeds include Cedar Rapids Xavier and Decorah.
All five teams will be hosting first- and second-round matches on May 12 with the substate final matches set for May 17 at sites to be determined.
In Class 2A, all the No. 1 and 2 seeds received an opening-round bye. Linn-Mar is the top seed in Substate 5 and will meet the winner of a match between Cedar Rapids Kennedy and Cedar Rapids Prairie.
Cedar Rapids Washington gets the winner of Muscatine and Iowa City Liberty in Substate 6. Cedar Rapids Jefferson earned the No. 2 seed and will also host, meeting the winner between Ottumwa and Burlington.
Defending state champion Iowa City West is in Substate 7 and will host the winner of Iowa City High and Western Dubuque. Other top seeds around the state include West Des Moines Valley, Waukee Northwest, Mason City, West Des Moines Dowling and Pleasant Valley.
Cedar Rapids Xavier is the defending 1A state champion. The Saints got a bye in Substate 4 and will play the winner between Mount Pleasant and Marion.
Decorah will play an opening-round match against Hampton-Dumont-CAL. If the Vikings advance, they would face the Iowa Falls-Alden/Osage winner.
Other top seeds in 1A include Spencer, Dubuque Wahlert, Pella, Boone, North Polk and Glenwood.
Substate winners advance to the state tournament on May 31-June 1. Class 2A matches will be held at Waukee Northwest High School with the 1A field playing at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Center in Iowa City.
