The four Iowa appellate and 61 district and associate district judges received enough votes in Tuesday’s retention election to remain on the bench. All the judges received above 60 percent of “yes” votes.

According to state records, on Jan. 23, 2019, the blade of a snow plow owned by the Iowa Department Transportation struck Terry Bunting, of Silvis, Illinois, on Highway 67 in Scott County, causing serious injuries to Bunting, leaving him unable to walk.

Based on national and judges’ workloads, Iowa should have an additional 24 district court judges. As a result, the percentage of cases pending in Iowa courts after 12 months exceeds national standards for felonies, dissolution, paternity and custody cases, probate and civil cases.
