The Johnson County Board of Supervisors took the first steps Wednesday in a process that will create districts for their representation of the county, as is now required by a bill signed into law last week by Gov. Kim Reynolds.

Reynolds, 65, has been governor since 2017, when Gov. Terry Branstad stepped down after being named U.S. ambassador to China by President Donald Trump.

A group of Iowans is suing the State of Iowa, alleging Gov. Kim Reynolds has no authority to require agencies such as the Department of Natural Resources to adopt regulations that are less burdensome on industry. They argue the governor’s order prioritizes industry over citizens.
