Nearly two months after Iowa Wesleyan University President Christine Plunkett in February asked Gov. Kim Reynolds for $12 million in federal COVID-relief funds to help her campus stay open, Plunkett in March sent another email telling the governor – who had yet to decide – that time was up.

And for the first time in a long time, Republicans hold a super majority in the Senate, which means they’ll be able to prevent Democrats from blocking gubernatorial appointees that require a two-thirds majority.

The new law reduces the number of cabinet-level state agencies from 37 to 16, and eliminates hundreds of vacant state government positions.

The legislation that has stalled in previous years appears to have more momentum this session.
