For our weather in the Cedar Rapids area today, according to the National Weather Service, it will be mostly sunny, with a high near 83. Calm winds, then, in the afternoon, from the north around 5 mph. Tonight we have a 20 percent chance of showers after 1 a.m. It should be partly cloudy, with a low around 61.
Cedar Rapids police said a shooting Saturday night in the Westdale neighborhood left a man with life-threatening injuries. At 11:30 p.m., a caller reported hearing numerous gunshots and seeing someone down on the ground at 4012 21st Ave. SW. Police said they found the injured man, secured the scene and interviewed witnesses for the active investigation. The shooting victim’s name is being withheld.
Looking at the latest CDC COVID Data Tracker, for the 7-day period ending Saturday, Aug. 28th: 98 Iowa counties are showing either a high level of community transmission or substantial community transmission. One county was in the substantial category while 97 were in the high transmission category. Only Adair County was in the moderate category.
