No. 1 teams in 4A and 3A fall on the final night of the regular season

Here’s how all 71 Iowa high school football teams ranked in this week’s Gazette poll fared in Week 9 games Friday night.
The No. 1-ranked teams in both Class 4A and 3A fell on the final night of the regular season. Sixth-ranked Gilbert took down Pella, 14-7, in 4A and No. 8 Benton shut out Williamsburg, 21-0 in 3A.
Iowa City High upset 5A’s last unbeaten, No. 2 Bettendorf, 42-23.
North Polk and Decorah are the only undefeated teams in 4A.
Sergeant Bluff-Luton and Dubuque Wahlert both finished the regular season 9-0 in 3A.
It was the first round of the playoffs for 2A, 1A, A and 8-Player teams and there were upsets there, too. Crestwood toppled No. 7 Roland-Story, 27-23, in 2A, while West Branch took down No. 4 Sigourney-Keota, 41-33, in 1A. Both the Cadets (4-5) and Bears (3-6) are moving on with losing records.
Updated playoff pairings for all seven classes will be released by the Iowa High School Athletic Association on Saturday morning.
The Gazette will publish final polls for 5A, 4A and 3A on Monday.
