Fire crews responded to heavy smoke coming from the pavilion’s restroom on Wednesday afternoon

The Downtown Cedar Rapids Public Library doesn’t yet have an estimate of how long it will take to reopen after a small fire closed the building on Wednesday.

The Cedar Rapids Downtown Public Library is closed until further notice after a fire broke out in a light fixture above the Commons area of the library Wednesday.

The church announced last week there will be in-person service Saturdays at 6:30 p.m. at River Community Church, 3001 Muscatine Ave, Iowa City.

A consulting firm will review locations of the city’s nine stations and the organization of the Cedar Rapids Fire Department.

The Iowa City Church on American Legion Road on the east side of Iowa City was “fully engulfed in flames and smoke” early Saturday morning. The fire remains under investigation.

Cedar Rapids firefighters subdued the fire after heat initially forced them from the building. Flames as high as 20 feet in the air were seen flowing out of the building’s roof before the blaze could be subdued.

Shuey’s Restaurant and Lounge in Shueyville will close temporarily after the building was damaged in a fire Saturday.

Authorities have identified a young girl killed in an Eastern Iowa house fire over the weekend.

The fire was reported just after 3:30 a.m. in Greeley, located about 60 miles northeast of Cedar Rapids. The caller said there was a child inside the residence.

A civilian rescued a dog from a house fire Monday morning, according to a news release from the Cedar Rapids Fire Department.

Marion firefighters responded to a fire at the Marion YMCA on Irish Drive on St. Patrick’s Day. The YMCA will remain closed through the weekend and will open again sometime next week.
