CEDAR RAPIDS - Cedar Rapids firefighters raised nearly $3,000 for breast cancer awareness and cancer survivors last month.
According to the Cedar Rapids Fire Department, firefighters raised $2,950.22 for Mercy Medical Center's Especially for You fund.
During the month of October, firefighters wore pink T-shirts and navy blue T-shirts with a pink ribbon while on duty. The International Association of Fire Fighters Local #11 designed the shirts, which firefighters purchased to raise money. Shirts were also sold to the public for $20 each, and firefighters promoted their fundraising efforts on social media.
