The EPA said the company broke federal law by not giving safety data sheets to first responders and not issuing an emergency notice after the explosion that injured nine employees — at least two seriously — and caused a fire that took Eastern Iowa firefighters 18 hours to extinguish.
Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird had joined the legal effort to halt the federal rule
‘There are 125 different species of fish in the Mississippi River,’ said Ross Geerdes, executive director of the center, in Lansing. ‘We can’t have all of them, but we’d like to have a dozen or maybe more. People want to look at the underside of the Mississippi River.’
River communities could enter flood action stages as soon as this weekend, cresting toward the end of April and beginning of May.
Iowa was one of only four states to turn down $3 million in federal money for planning to prevent climate change after a state official advised against it because there were “strings attached.”
“It's kind of remarkable that clean water can kill fish, but that's what happens here with the chlorine in the water,” an Iowa DNR staffer said.

The $15,000 in grant funding will be used to expand and diversify the city’s urban tree canopy.
