As summer weather is starting to arrive, the city of Cedar Rapids has brought back rental electric bikes and scooters to downtown streets for the seventh year in a row.

Residents and visitors can once again rent an e-bike or scooter in downtown Cedar Rapids and surrounding districts to get around town.

The City Council has extended its contract with VeoRide, the vendor that owns and operates Cedar Rapids’ bike and scooter rental program. With the deal comes changes intended to promote safety and reduce the amount of clutter of the devices.

Love them or hate the devices, the City Council is slated to consider keeping electric scooters and bikes. The city may OK a three-year contract extension with VeoRide for the device rental program with changes to address safety and clutter concerns.

Cedar Rapids officials are asking the vendor how to better check ages of those renting scooters under the city’s bike and scooter share program.
