Eastern Iowa Republican incumbent Mariannette Miller-Meeks extended her narrow lead by roughly 400 votes in an unsettled U.S. House race that was still too close to call Wednesday afternoon. The two-term incumbent declared victory, but said she expects a recount, which would be the second time in three elections that her narrow victory went through a recount.

According to unofficial election results reported by the Iowa Secretary of State, 1.58 million Iowans have voted in the election so far, the same number of residents who voted in 2016. Iowans set a record in the 2020 General Election with 1.69 million ballots cast.

Iowa seemed likely to make history with the election of Hiawatha City Council member Aime Wichtendahl to House District 80 — covering northern portions of Cedar Rapids up through Hiawatha and Robins.

The bond will be used to protect water quality, preserve natural areas and improve public access to parks and trails in Johnson County over the next 20 years.
