Des Moines police on Friday recovered the body of an 11-year-old girl who drowned in the Raccoon River after getting off an inflatable raft.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office continued its search Friday for an 11-year-old girl who went into the Cedar River Wednesday near Palisades-Kepler State Park.

Emergency responders are searching for a girl who went into the Cedar River and who was identified Thursday morning by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office as 11-year-old Zyah Thomas.

Erik Spaw, a Cedar Rapids Water Division employee, is still missing nearly two months after his fleet truck was found submerged in the Cedar River.

Police said the 44-year-old man and his teenage son went into the Cedar River on July 16 to cool off. The man then dipped under the water and never resurfaced.

Officials are investigating after the body of a man was pulled from a south-central Iowa lake over the weekend.
