University of Iowa student arrested after pot brownies shipped to dorm

May. 6, 2014 10:15 am
A University of Iowa student is accused of receiving a shipment of marijuana brownies in the mail.
On April 8, members of the Johnson County Drug Task Force took possession of a package intended for 19-year-old Christian Hernandez. The UI student resided in Burge Hall on the UI campus.
Police said residence hall staff intercepted the package due to a 'strong odor of marijuana.' Members of the task force delivered the package to Hernandez, who said it was his, according to a criminal complaint.
Hernandez allegedly told police he knew the package contained marijuana brownies. Police said Hernandez admitted to receiving previous shipments of pot brownies and distributed those snacks to his friends.
The package of brownies weighed nearly two pounds, police said.
Hernandez has been arrested and faces one count of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, a Class D felony.
