Two Cedar Rapids men face robbery charges.
According to the Cedar Rapids Police Department, around 12:15 p.m. Sunday, officers took a report of a robbery at 2265 C St. SW. The callers reported they had been threatened with a handgun and had items stolen from them. They were able to provide suspect descriptions to police.
Responding officers saw two men matching the descriptions running through the apartment complex and chased them down, according to police. The officers were able to catch up to the suspects, who then fought with the officers. The two men were taken into custody and identified as 26-year-old Darrell J. Sims and 21-year-old Chavelle C. Sutton. Sims and Sutton live together at 1666 29th St. NE, police said.
Both men were arrested on charges of first-degree robbery, a Class B felony, and interference with official acts. Officers also discovered an amount of crack cocaine and marijuana on Sims, earning him two additional charges of possession of a controlled substance.
A Class B felony is punishable by up to 25 years in prison.
