A pair of Cedar Rapids residents have been arrested in connection with a Thursday afternoon bank robbery.
According to the Cedar Rapids Police Department, 21-year-old Bria Daudinot and 28-year-old Javon Dockery have been charged with first-degree robbery after allegedly robbing the U.S. Bank at 129 16th Ave. SW at 4:44 p.m. Daudinot and Dockery live together at 114 21st Street SW, but the extent of their relationship has not been specified by police.
Police said following the armed robbery, the suspects fled in a vehicle. That vehicle was located a short time later and police tried to pull the driver over. When the driver failed to stop, a pursuit began, police said.
Police said the chase ended when the driver hit another vehicle at the intersection of A Avenue and Seventh Street NE. The vehicle that was struck was occupied by KCRG-TV9 reporter Forrest Saunders and photojournalist Adam Sotello.
Daudinot and Dockery fled on foot, but were captured by officers after a foot pursuit, police said.
There were no injuries in the robbery or in the collision, police said.
In addition to the robbery charge, Daudinot also has been charged with eluding, leaving the scene of a traffic accident and several other traffic-related charges.
First-degree robbery is a Class B felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison.
Cedar Rapids public safety spokesman Greg Buelow said police will investigate whether Dockery and Daudinot are connected with any of the previous unsolved bank robberies in the city.
According to a March 2008 Gazette article, Dockery was arrested in Cedar Rapids that month after he fled South Holland, Ill. following his alleged involvement in a shooting that left one man dead and another man seriously wounded. Dockery was captured here when Cedar Rapids police took a call from staff at the Super 8 Motel, 720 33rd Ave. SW, reporting that a handgun had been discovered by a housekeeper. Police learned Dockery was wanted out of Cook County, Ill., developed information on his whereabouts and executed a search warrant at 1417 Fifth Ave.
Dockery was arrested as a fugitive from justice and was extradited back to Cook County. According to online records, he was released from the custody of the Illinois Department of Corrections in September 2013.
