Three men arrested after Iowa City shots fired incident face new charges

IOWA CITY - Three Iowa City men arrested in December after attempting to flee from a shots fired incident face additional charges.

According to Iowa City police criminal complaints, around 12:32 p.m. Dec. 4, in the area of Amber Lane and Lakeside Drive a group of people were blocking the road and making it so a vehicle could not pass by. Police said the victim in this case arrived home and confronted the group about not letting the vehicle pass.

Police said a group of six subjects - including Victor B. Jones, 18; Daivon D. Jones, 18; and Dimione J. Walker, 24 - attacked the victim by hitting and kicking him multiple times. Authorities said one member of the group shot at the victim who told police he 'heard something fly by his head.” Police said a shell casing was found at the scene and the shot was heard on security video in the area. Additionally, video from Grant Wood Elementary School showed the six subjects fleeing the area, police said.

Police responded to the area and captured Jones, Jones, Walker, Dearl R. Johnson, 20; Brandon L. Juniel, 22; and a juvenile. Everyone but Juniel was arrested on charges of interference with official acts. Juniel and the juvenile were both arrested on charges of marijuana possession.

With the new charges, Victor Jones, Daivon Jones and Dimione Walker now face additional charges of willful injury causing bodily injury, a Class D felony; assault with intent to inflict serious injury, an aggravated misdemeanor; and participating in a riot; an aggravated misdemeanor. If convicted, the men could face up to nine years in prison.
