Second suspect arrested in Iowa City theft investigation

IOWA CITY - Police have arrested the second suspect in a string of thefts from an Iowa City apartment complex.
According to Iowa City police criminal complaints, 21-year-old Mariah D. Arneson admitted entering the Eastbrook Flats Apartments, 3558 Eastbrook Drive, with a co-defendant who had stolen a garage door opener for the apartment complex. James E. Goods, 18, of Coralville, has previously been arrested in connection with this case.
Police said Arneson admitted to either taking several items or having knowledge of items stolen from vehicles. Packages were also taken from inside the apartment complex. Arneson also admitted to selling stolen items or having knowledge of stolen items being sold.
Police said Arneson is responsible for taking items valued at a total of $5,838. She now faces two counts of second-degree theft, a Class D felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
Goods faces charges of first-degree theft, a Class C felony; and two counts of third-degree burglary - motor vehicle, an aggravated misdemeanor.
