IOWA CITY - The Iowa City man accused of abusing an intoxicated woman and recording it is scheduled to go to trial in April.
According to court records, 23-year-old Nathan Schloss is scheduled to go to trial on April 7. His final pretrial conference is scheduled for March 27.
Schloss is accused of 18 counts of third-degree sexual abuse and 22 counts of invasion of privacy. He pleaded not guilty to those charges on Friday.
Police said Schloss abused a woman multiple times over a period beginning in May 2012 and continuing until Sept. 8, 2012. Videos of the alleged abuse depict Schloss touching the incapacitated woman and, in some cases, penetrating her. Police said the woman had no idea she was sexually assaulted or that the alleged abuse was recorded.
The abuse was discovered when police were investigating the abuse of Schloss' cat, Fritz. In that case, Schloss recorded his then-roommate, Leo A. Nopoulos, abusing the cat. Police said during that investigation, they discovered the videos of Schloss allegedly abusing the woman.
While Schloss' 40 current charges relate to a single victim, police said they believe he had multiple victims. Police said they are still searching for those women.
Schloss told police that in each instance, the woman in the video knew about the sexual contact and that she was being recorded. However, police said the woman was 'clearly incapacitated,” during those encounters.
Schloss is out of custody on bond. He has been ordered not to have any contact with the alleged victim.
