Police say Ames man broke into Iowa City apartment, fought with occupants

IOWA CITY - An Ames man is accused of breaking into an Iowa City apartment and fighting with people there.
According to an Iowa City police criminal complaint, officers were called to 313 S. Gilbert St. at 7:27 p.m. Saturday for a report of a break-in and assault. Witnesses told police that 19-year-old Mason J. Sury was in an apartment directly below the victim's apartment and became upset. Police said Sury climbed the balcony up to the victim's apartment and became to fight with him and others inside the residence.
Police said Sury left the apartment, but came back 20 minutes later with two other people. The three men broke down the front door of the victim's apartment and assaulted people inside the residence.
The victim suffered injuries to his face, police said.
Sury was arrested and faces one count of first-degree burglary, a Class B felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison.
