Marion police kill diseased deer, turn carcass over to DNR

MARION - Marion police said they killed a diseased deer on Friday.
The police department said they had received numerous calls recent days about a sick deer in the area of Armar Drive and Marion Boulevard. On Friday, officers were called to the area after learning the deer was laying in a parking lot and several citizens were trying to help it.
Police said the deer was 'clearly suffering from disease.” After speaking with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, the decision was made to kill the deer.
Authorities said the deer was safely killed and the carcass was picked up by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources for testing.
