March for Our Lives event in Cedar Rapids moved to Raygun
A Thursday event with students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School has been relocated to Raygun.
Due to weather, the 1 p.m. event at Noelridge Park in Cedar Rapids has been moved to event space at Raygun, 1028 Third Street SE, according to organizers and Raygun staff.
The event is a stop on the March for Our Lives: Road to Change summer tour organized by students from Parkland, Fl., where a gunman killed 17 at Douglas High School in February.
A second stop in the area, at Linn-Mar High School at 7 p.m. Thursday, still is on schedule.
Raygun store manager Thomas Somphanthabansouk said space at the store has been booked from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday by NextGen America, and Parkland students are expected to attend. NextGen America is helping the Parkland students organize events, the nonprofit's Iowa Media Manager Frances Swanson said, though it is not an official partner for the event.
The Road to Change tour kicked off June 15 with a stop in Chicago. So far, 17 stops have been confirmed in nine states this month. Additional events in July and August dates are to be announced.
