An Iowa City woman was arrested Monday on charges that she stabbed two people, one of whom is pregnant, in a downtown club early Sunday.
Lacey Larie Bode, 35, is charged with two counts of willful injury-causing bodily injury, and one count each of going armed with intent, assault while displaying a dangerous weapon and assault while displaying a dangerous weapon to a pregnant person.
According to criminal complaints, Bode was in The Haven, which describes itself as a smoothie and juice bar and performance venue, when she got into a fight with a woman who is six months’ pregnant. The pregnant woman told police she had tried to walk behind the bar when Bode pushed her. The woman told Bode not to touch her because she was pregnant, and Bode then pulled out a knife and repeatedly tried to stab her.
Another woman jumped between Bode and the pregnant woman. During the fight, the pregnant woman sustained a small stab wound in her stomach and the second woman sustained a small cut to her leg and a larger cut to her face, which required stitches.
The Haven is located at 220 S. Van Buren St., which formerly housed a hookah lounge called the H Bar. Police officers were in the 200 block of S. Van Buren Street and were notified of the stabbing after it happened. The two victims already were on the way to the hospital and Bode had left the scene by the time officers arrived. Police interviewed the women at the hospital and later identified Bode, who admitted she was at the scene and there was an altercation, the complaint states.
Bode had her first appearance in court Tuesday and was being held in the Johnson County Jail on a $50,000 bail. A no-contact order has been filed on behalf of the two women who were stabbed.
