IOWA CITY - An Iowa City woman is accused of intentionally spreading her blood to a nurse at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
According to the UI Department of Public Safety, at 2:10 p.m. Monday, 57-year-old Rose M. Sutton was being treated for a seizure at the UIHC emergency room. Police said when Sutton was denied narcotics, she got angry and told the emergency room nurse she was leaving.
Police said the nurse told her not to rip out her IV and that her wound needed to be covered. Sutton ignored that request and yanked out the IV while the nurse was in proximity. Police said the nurse got Sutton's blood on his clothing and face.
Sutton was arrested and faces one count of assault on people in certain occupations, an serious misdemeanor that covers attacks on police officers, jailers, firefighters, correctional staff and, in this case, health care workers.
