Iowa City man faces charged related to 2018 shooting

IOWA CITY - An Iowa City man faces charged related to a 2018 shooting in which he was accidentally shot by his accomplice.

According to Iowa City police criminal complaints, around 1:54 a.m. Sept. 29, 2018, 29-year-old Darelle M. Bull and 25-year-old Arielle N. Grier got into an argument with three people. Police said the three people tried to walk away from Bull and Grier, but the duo pursued and attacked them.

Police said Grier shot at the three people and accidentally hit Bull twice. Bull told investigating officers that he had no idea who shot him. Police said they obtained video showing Bull and Grier together when he was released from the hospital, as well as a video in which they rapped about the shooting.

Police said Bull helped Grier by trying to keep police from discovering that she shot him and another person who was also harmed. Bull's actions 'were done with the intent to prevent the apprehension of co-defendant Grier for the offense of attempted murder.”

Bull faces charges of accessory to a felony, an aggravated misdemeanor; and assault causing bodily injury, a serious misdemeanor.

Grier initially faced two counts of attempted murder and one count of reckless use of a firearm with serious injury. However, court records show that Grier entered a plea deal that saw the two attempted murder charges dismissed. She pleaded guilty to reckless use of a firearm and willful injury causing bodily injury.
