IOWA CITY, Iowa - For the second time this month, an Iowa City man has been arrested for indecent exposure.
Around 5:30 a.m. Thursday, a witness reported seeing 53-year-old Gerald Meyer in the area of Riverside Drive and Grove Street with no pants. An officer responded and located another witness who also said they saw Meyer touching himself in the area of Park Road and Templin Drive, according to an Iowa City Police criminal complaint.
The suspect description matched that of Meyer, who is known to police for previous incidents, police said.
Police searched the area and said they found Meyer standing with no pants on between two cars in the parking lot of his apartment complex on Ellis Avenue. When Meyer saw an officer approach, he fled on foot, police said. The officer chased Meyer through a nearby building until Meyer finally gave up, police said. He was arrested on charges of indecent exposure and interference with official acts. Indecent exposure is a serious misdemeanor and interference with official acts is a simple misdemeanor.
Meyer was arrested for indecent exposure on July 13 in Iowa City after two witnesses saw him laying nude on a picnic table in Ryerson's Woods Park, which is located just south of Iowa City. Meyer was touching himself while laying on the table, police said.
Indecent exposure is a serious misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail. Meyer has a lengthy criminal history in Iowa. In addition to his indecent exposure charges, he has been convicted of numerous drug and driving while barred offenses.
