IOWA CITY - A Grinnell man took deputies on a high-speed chase Monday night, the Johnson County Sheriff's Office said.
Authorities tried to stop Jeremy D. Bruce, 36, in the 400 block of Spring Ridge Drive south of Iowa City at 11:14 p.m. Monday because they suspected he was a wanted person, according to the sheriff's office.
Deputies said Bruce refused to stop and instead drove off.
Authorities said Bruce drove through several stop signs, crossed the centerline and drove down the center of the road, and took several curves at a high speed. When Bruce finally stopped, he was determined to be under the influence of methamphetamine and marijuana, according to the criminal complaints.
Bruce admitted to using the drugs, and deputies also found several syringes inside his vehicle, according to the complaints.
Bruce is charged with eluding, a Class D felony; operating under the influence, a serious misdemeanor; possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor; and several traffic violations, including reckless driving.
