Foot prints lead to suspects in Hiawatha burglary

HIAWATHA - Two Cedar Rapids residents are accused of breaking into a Hiawatha home and stealing a gun.

According to the Linn County Attorney's Office, Hiawatha police were called to an apartment in the 200 block of Robins Road on Feb. 13 for a report of a break-in. Responding officers sound 'signs of forced entry” at the apartment. The victim said some of his personal property - including a shotgun - had been stolen from the residence.

Police said they found two sets of shoe prints in the snow, which led them to the residence of Katelyn S. Thompson, 18; and Jacob M. Styre, 18. Police obtained a search warrant for their home and recovered some of the stolen items.

Authorities said both suspects admitted to their role in the burglary. Styre also tried to sell the stolen shotgun, police said. They were arrested and both face charges of third-degree burglary and trafficking stolen weapons.
