Fire extinguished on University of Iowa campus

IOWA CITY - A University of Iowa building that is being demolished was damaged by a rubbish fire Monday evening.
The fire was reported at 7:15 p.m. at the Communications Center, the building at 116 S. Madison St. that housed the UI School of Journalism and the Daily Iowan when it opened in 1951.
Iowa City firefighters found a 'large rubbish fire” on the building's first floor and had it under control in 26 minutes, according to an Iowa City news release.
Damage was limited to the building's first floor. No one was injured. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
