DCI warns about scammers posting as agents

Feb. 15, 2018 8:18 am
DES MOINES - The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and Iowa State Patrol are warning citizens about scammers posing as state agents.
According to the Department of Public Safety, the scammers are posing as DCI special agents investigating a lawsuit. DPS is telling citizens that they should hang up on anyone who calls them claiming to be collecting money on their behalf. Authorities also said DPS does not demand immediate payment from prepaid debit cars. Citizens also should not provide or confirm personal or financial information to anyone who calls.
Anyone who receives a call from a suspected scammer is asked to call their local law enforcement agency and the Iowa Attorney General's Office Hotline at 515-281-5926 or 888-777-4590.
