Coralville man accused of assaulting sister, grandmother

CORALVILLE - A Coralville man is accused of assaulting his sister with a shotgun and punching his grandmother in the face.
According to Coralville police criminal complaints, around 7:40 a.m. Tuesday, 20-year-old Mason C. Edwards got into a fight with his sister and her boyfriend at his home at 3701 Second St., trailer 32C. Police said the sister and boyfriend were attempting to flee the residence when Edwards hit his sister in the back of the head with a shotgun.

Police said the victim suffered a cut to the back of her head. Edwards proceeded to poke her in the side with the barrel of the shotgun, causing bruising, police said.
The sister and her boyfriend were able to make it to her grandparents' trailer. Authorities said Edwards' grandmother came out to talk to him and he punched her in the face. She suffered cuts, swelling to her nose and broken glasses, police said.
Edwards was arrested and faces charges of assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor; and assault causing bodily injury, a serious misdemeanor. If convicted of both charges, Edwards would face up to three years in prison.
