One killed in Benton County crash Saturday

One person — 81-year-old Lorin Potter, of Luzerne — was killed in a crash Saturday in Benton County, according to a crash report from the Iowa State Patrol.
The crash happened around 2 p.m. near the intersection of 18th Avenue and 77th Street, between Luzerne and Blairstown.
A Ford Focus, driven by Francis Potter, 84, of Luzerne, was pulling a motorcycle with a rope, heading west on 77th Street and traveling very slowly. Lorin Potter was on the motorcycle.
A Volkswagen Passat, driven by Stacia Mewes, 45, of Blairstown, also traveling west, came up behind the motorcycle and was unable to stop before hitting it.
The motorcycle was pushed into the Ford Focus, and Lorin Potter was ejected from the motorcycle, according to the crash report.
Potter was taken to UnityPoint Health-St. Luke’s Hospital but did not survive, the report states.
