Iowa City man leads deputies on high-speed chase

IOWA CITY - An Iowa City man is accused of leading Johnson County deputies on a high-speed chase last week.
According to Johnson County Sheriff's Office criminal complaints, shortly before 10 p.m. Feb. 12, a Johnson County deputy attempted to pull over 30-year-old Walter J. James in the 2800 block of Highway 1 SW in Iowa City. Police said James responded by accelerating and leading police on a pursuit.
James eluded police for several miles, reaching speeds of 112 mph in a 25 mph zone, according to criminal complaints.
Deputies eventually stopped James, who was arrested for eluding, an aggravated misdemeanor; driving while revoked, a serious misdemeanor; and a host of traffic violations.
